Headshots are essential in so many areas of business

For businesses in Reading, Berkshire, standing out from the competition means having great marketing material. Photography is important material for so many marketing channels. As part of this, a professional headshot of those working in the business can set you apart, and in the digital world we inhabit, is a top priority for many.

It's that first impression that counts for so much, when a potential client or customer looks at your website or LinkedIn profiles. As they say, there is no second chance to make a great first impression!

There is a world of difference between a selfie, holiday snap or a photo at a wedding, which may be one that you like, but doesn't show your professional side. There is the brand of the business to consider and by having professional photos taken, everyone involved can confidently represent the business.

Headshot photography at your offices in Reading

Often I take photos at offices or work premises in and around Reading, using the existing environment and natural light. This works well when there are a number of people involved. I arrive early to find the best location in or near the business premises, where the light and background are right for headshots.

When we have our initial call to agree the brief, we discuss all the elements and logistics for a headshot shoot. This will include timing, briefing of the staff, and location, in order for me to provide a quote. Occasionally, it is appropriate to hire a different location to fit in with the business brand and what they are looking to communicate in their images. It may be a little more complex, but there is always a solution that works!

Professional headshots are usually head and shoulder photos, so the most important elements of it are expression, colours/textures of the background and the clothes. I send out a handy preparation guide in advance, so that everyone can feel prepared and confident to have their headshots taken on the day.

I give direction for your professional headshots.

People seldom have professional headshots taken, so are not sure what to expect. Not only this, but everone dislikes having a camera pointed at them and their photo taken! That's why my preparation guide is key to helping my clients feel confident in advance of the headshot session. It goes through all the elements that need to be considered before the day itself, including what to wear, and how to prepare.

During our photo shoot I direct you on how to stand or sit, how to hold yourself. I help work through a variety of expressions with you, and sometimes even tell people what to think about as this can change their expression. Humour is also an essential part of helping people feel comfortable in front of my camera!

My aim is to get images of people that show the best version of themselves at that point in time. To give more confidence, I sometimes show the first few frames from my camera, so that my subjects know their prefessional headshots are in good hands, and they are looking great. My clients tell me the experience far surpases their expectation and they actually enjoy it.

Businesses in Reading often also commission a photographer to create pieces of art that are bespoke to them for their offices. This helps with their brand and images can be arrranged on the walls of their reception areas, corridors and board rooms, which communicate more about the business. We work up a brief that is on brand, or I occasionally I am given open creative interpretation to produce a set of images that represents the business visually...whichever, this is a really fun process!

FAQs

For bigger businesses with staff in an office, that is a good starting point. In our initial briefing call, we would discuss the office or work environment to decide if this is appropriate for the professional headshots. Sometimes an outdoor location is on brand, and I would scout out the area to suggest different spots that might work. This could range from brick, textured backdrops to some more funky suggestions such as glass and steel. It's important to remember that the backdrop in headshots is just texture and colour, as it is usually thrown out of focus, so the main subject is the face.
If you have offices in Reading, having professional headshots taken there is a simple decision. I can come to your work premises and either use the space you have or find a great outdoor location that has the best light and backdrop for your photos. Equally, if you have staff working remotely, Reading is a great location due to it's transport links, so some businesses choose to have a photo shoot in Reading as it's easy for staff to travel there.
All people in business need a professional headshot, whether they are sales people, customer services, account managers or directors. A photograph that clearly shows who you are, not only what you look like but also the impression you give. This could be very professional, quirky, or fun, depending on your personal or business brand. Headshots are used on websites, for PR and on professional social media sites such as LinkedIn.
You will have received my guide on how to prepare for your professional headshots which covers clothes, amongst other important elements. My suggestion is usually to bring a few changes of tops (it's head and shoulders only) to give you a choice. This can range from smart casual to more formal, depending on your role. A choice of necklines for the ladies and jacket/jumpers for the men is a good starting point. The colours to avoid are pure black and pure white, along with mad patterns or logos which might distract from your Reading backdrop, or date.
